Chris Naylor has expressed disappointment as the Conservatives choose a Wolverhampton MP for South Shropshire.

Chris Naylor, who is the Liberal Democrats' Parliamentary Candidate for South Shropshire and has lived by the Long Mynd in All Stretton for nearly eight years - said, "Whether his time at Wolverhampton -and his brief career under Boris Johnson, Liz Truss, Rishi Sunak - will equip him to serve the rural communities and market towns of South Shropshire voters will want to consider. His Wikipedia entry may be a good place to start.

“The Liberal Democrats, with their positive record in South Shropshire, have over decades proved their ongoing commitment to local opportunities and concerns.”

Leading Lib Dem councillor, Cllr Heather Kidd MBE commented, “With Newark’s Robert Jenrick MP widely tipped as PPC to succeed Philip Dunne, Stuart Anderson looks like he was the ‘Stop Jenrick’ alternative.

“Anderson had already announced he was stepping down as a Wolverhampton MP back in March, so many thought he’d return to his business career despite its ups and downs.”

Former Shropshire Lib Dem MP Matthew Green added, "Philip Dunne represented a previous kind of Conservative Party. The shift of the party to a populist nationalism - that ignores business and conserves nothing - is one that Philip cannot have felt comfortable with, just as many who previously voted Conservative are also deeply unhappy.

"The selection of Wolverhampton MP Stuart Anderson, a Boris Johnson supporter, would seem likely to add to that concern amongst traditional Conservative voters.”
